Why Use A Running Pace Calculator?

The main reason runners use a pace calculator is to find out how fast they need to run in order to achieve their race finish time goal.

You can also use this pace calculator to see how long it will take you to finish a race at different paces.

For example, if you are going to run a 5K, you can use the calculator to find out what your finish time would be--at say a 10:00 minute pace -- which would be 31:04.

You can also see how much faster your finish time would be at various paces by using the pace table which lists faster and slower paces in 15 second intervals.

How To Calculate Your Running Pace

To calculate your running pace, use this formula:

Pace = Time / Distance
Stated another way, divide your run time by the distance.

Here are a few examples:

  • If you ran for one hour (60 minutes) and went 6 miles, your pace is 60 ÷ 6 = 10:00 minute mile.
  • If you ran a 5K (3.1 miles) in 30 minutes, your pace is 30 ÷ 5 = 6 min per kilometer.
  • If you ran a half marathon (13.1 miles) in 2 hours, your pace is 120 ÷ 13.11 = 9:15 minute mile.
